Just thought I would let you all know that Amazon has released BRAND NEW Kindles at some amazingly low prices. They even have a Kindle in color (Kindle Fire, $200, a Kindle B/W touch, as well as with/without the keypad). I really want to get my kids a Kindle ($80 version!!).
I have a classic Nook and a Kindle (keypad, about 6 months old). Personally, the Kindle is far better for speed and customer service. After the last update on my Nook, it is running like a snail and lags a LOT more than it did. I tried calling customer service but they were of NO help. My Nook has been turned off and shelved for about a year.
Do your research and check the FB pages for both as well as the discussions. Find friends who may have one or the other device and compare.
I have not bonded with the Nook; but have owned it since 10/2010. Had to have it replaced due to battery. very pleased with customer service!! Note: I was reminded by Customer Service, you have to charge your NOOK every week whether you use it or not!!! that’s kind of a pain, here I’ve gone 2 weeks w/o using the NOOK and have not recharged it…makes it seem like the battery is not a good quality.
Really want a Kindle w/o wifi for kids….looking at Sony.
I am really impressed with what I have read about the Kindle Fire. I can’t wait to see what they do with it next. I am sure Amazon intends it as a viewing device for their streaming video service, which is so tempting – comes out to about $6.50 a month (Netflix is 7.99) but there is no way (as far as I can tell) to watch the videos on your television, like we can do with Netflix and our Wii. But bundling the video service with free two day shipping – dangerous! If I wanted something, I could just click the button and a couple of days later I have it! Oh my that might be too much temptation for me.
My plan is to see how all these new products and services are doing at Amazon a year from now. The kindle concept is clearly here to stay – and the sky is the limit with amazon’s cloud storage, new browser, etc. I will start saving my pennies for this new device, I think. Maybe.
And I can’t believe a new basic kindle is down to $79! Amazing!
It’s extremely simple to move books when you get a new Kindle. You don’t do anything. It automatically went from our first Kindle directly to our second Kindle’s archives, ready to download the ones you want with a mere push of a button.
I’m considering, if we have the money, passing down our Kindles to our boys. I really love my Kindle with the keyboard, though, so I’m not sure what to do, if I should go for the new or not.
Actually, we have Netflix AND Amazon Prime. The only reason we have Amazon Prime is the free shipping, which we use frequently. The best way to compare them is probably to do the free trial for each. We use Netflix 99% of the time and will stick with that for sure.
