Hi. My name is Robin. I have lurked her for ages. I am begginning to get myself into research mode for next year and am desperately wanting to use the CM method with my dd16 and ds11. We do some things in a CMish way, but I would like to move away from using so many textbooks, especially with dd16 as she has been enrolled in a distance learning program (I had to do this for the year while caring for my terminally ill grandmother). Now that that season of our lives has come to a close, we are finishing up with the distance program. For next year, we want more living books alongside an occasional text used as a spine (like History, for example, and Science). This year proved productive, but very school-ish, which is okay, but we missed using whole books instead of snippets from a text.

I have ordered the planning guide and all day seminar and hope to be inspired so I can begin planning.

If anyone has any words of encouragement or suggestions for resources for my dd16, please chime in. Our required subjects for next year will be U.S. History, Environmental Science or AP Biology, Algebra 2, Literature to align with History for the most part, Spanish 2 and we want to add in nature study, picture study, etc. We have trouble shortening our lessons sometimes, so that will be an adjustment as well.

This site has given me great ideas and I look forward to planning.

    Hi Robin,

Welcome. You will find much encouragement on this forum. I love everything about the SCM site, guides, DVDs, books, etc!

The All Day Seminar is fabulous! Sonya has a real gift for taking CM and making the method understandable and doable and enjoyable. I’m actually doing a public showing of it for a group next week here in Jacksonville. It’s very encouraging and helpful.

My kids are much younger – 8, 5, almost 2 – so I don’t have specific suggestions for you. Just an encouraging cyber hug.

    Blessings,

    Welcome Robin!

Its so good to have you here! My advice to you is, let the SCM “curriculum guide” serve you and you’ll be on your way. As you already know, this forum is such a big help.

To tie in American History with Literature & Bible, you might like to check out “Exploring America” by Ray Notgrass

Unless you are very good at teaching Algebra 2, you might like to check out “Teaching Textbooks”

    Have a beautiful day! 🙂

    Heather
