I love the new lists! I think in lists so this is perfect for me. I have one suggestion to offer – could the books suggested in the Visits To notebooks be added? perhaps like this
Visits to Africa (one notebook per student)
Recommended Reading
Grades 1–3 or Family
• Ashanti to Zulu: African Traditions by Margaret Musgrove
• Beatrice’s Goat by Page McBrier
• The Butter Man by Elizabeth Alalou and Ali Alalou
• One Child, One Seed: A South African Counting Book by Kathryn Cave
• We All Went on Safari: A Counting Journey through Tanzania by Laurie Krebs
• Yatandou by Gloria Whelan
Grades 3–12
• Letters from Egypt by Mary Whatley (edited by Sonya Shafer, published by Simply Charlotte Mason)
The content of this edited version is appropriate for younger students but the writing style
may be difficult for them. We recommend you download the free sample of this book at
SimplyCharlotteMason.com and see which of your children would enjoy it most.
Here is a link to the SCM Bible, History, Geography Module Booklists in pdf form. All module lists are the most current. Modules 1-3 have the Visits To book suggestions added.
All information taken directly from the SCM website and the sample pages of the Visits To books. I’ve simply compiled it in a printer friendly format.
I printed my lists double sided and put them in a plastic, 3-prong folder. I keep a book database on my computer, but I like a simple printed list to look at.
For Christie: I see extra books listed for grades 1-3 that are not in the required list for SCM History, Geography, Bible. I had made a print out for the books I would need from the Free Curriculum Guide offered in SCM in this subject area– all the Family required books plus 2 additional (for grades 1-3): “Boy of the Pyramids” and “The True Story of Noah’s Ark”. However, your list has 6 other books for Family or Grades 1-3. I’m confused. Where did those books come from?
They are part of the Visits To Africa recommendations. I wanted all of the geography and culture books with the others which is why I listed them under the Visits book. You can certainly leave off whatever you choose or need to.
Thanks. Now I get it! I now see that the Visits to Africa, which is a neat Geograpy sort of “workbook”, has its own set of recommended books for some of the questions in there. I have added those books to my list. This really helps prepare a budget. Thank you so much!!!
