I’d like to recommend a new handwriting/copywork program from Zeezok Pub.Here’s a portion of what I received in my email:

Presidential Penmanship™ is a supplemental handwriting skills program for first grade through senior high based on the writings and quotes of America’s founding fathers and presidents. With this program you will expose your students to government principles and moral qualities that made America a great nation. Each grade level is available as an eBook in the following writing styles: Handwriting Without Tears®, A Beka®, D’Nealian®, BJU Press© and Zaner-Bloser©. First and second graders learning manuscript copy thirty-six quotes centered around the founding principles of the United States and character qualities such as honesty and hard work. Quotes chosen for the primary level are short enough to memorize, laying a foundation for future history and civics instruction. Third and fourth graders learning cursive copy slightly longer quotes by our nation’s Chief Executives as well as passages from speeches by Patrick Henry, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. The third and fourth grade practice books include 108 skill-building lessons for practice three times per week for thirty-six weeks. Fifth graders utilizing the Presidential Penmanship™ program will write selected passages from George Washington’s Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior. Each rule is accompanied by a related Scripture verse. For example, “Be no flatterer, neither play with any that delights not to be played with” is accompanied by “A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.” (Proverbs 29:5) The program continues in sixth grade with slightly longer presidential quotes and a “final exam” in which the student copies the Gettysburg Address. The junior high and senior high levels start with shorter quotes progressing to paragraph length passages near the end of the course. Selections include sections from the Declaration of Independence, Lincoln’s First and Second Inaugural Addresses, the Gettysburg Address, and Reagan’s First and Second Inaugural Addresses-great for memorization as well as handwriting practice. Each level includes extra lined pages to print out should the student need additional space or extra practice.

In Federalist 51, James Madison wrote, “But what is government itself but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: You must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” These profound truths are as relevant today as when they were written in 1788. It is our desire that Presidential Penmanship™ will do more than improve your child’s handwriting skills. We trust that it will challenge their minds, stimulate discussion with their teachers and peers, and solidify the values necessary for good citizenship and maintenance of our republic.

I ordered the 2nd grade in HWT and ZB for my DS and DD. I know I could use the wonderful books I have for copywork, but it’s so much easier to have it in one area, already written in the style that they are learning instead of a style different from theirs (which was causing confusion at their ages). there’s so many wonderful quotes here.

I’m so glad it’s going to meet some needS! I was excited, too! In fact my son did the first weeks, first day today (he’s 8) and after reading George Washington’s quote on rightly governng a nation with G-d and the BIble, he asked “why” (like he asks about everything)and I was able to explain to him natural rights from “Our Creator”, that gov’t is to protect rights naturally given by G-d, that they don’t ‘give’ rights. And since I just finished my John Adams book, I was able to relay some info. from Adams about the G-d of the Bible, religious freedom and equality.

Hope ya’ll get equally intriguing questions and conversations! G-d knows our children need this info. to be beacons of true freedom in our country for their future.
