It’s a great price but I am sure it will come with “nothing”. So what are a must for my new computer for a son who is only going to use it to do classes, and write papers. Do I really need Microsoft word? Or is there a decent alternative online he can use? Thanks.. new to this November 10, 2012 at 3:56 am SuzqParticipantMy son uses Open Office, a free option. I can’t really tell you anything about it though because I never used it. I think it works in a similar way. http://www.openoffice.org November 10, 2012 at 4:09 am jmac17ParticipantI’ve been using Open Office for a few years as well. It does everything I’ve needed it to in terms of word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc. November 10, 2012 at 4:46 am anniepeterParticipantI second or third open office. You can find this and MANY other free programs including all the virus and malware protection you need at majorgeeks.com A computer guru friend clued me in to this a couple years ago. He says it’s a safe place to get stuff like this – all tested and virus proof, etc. I always check there first now before buying anything. This will help with keeping costs down after we get one, hopefullyViewing 5 posts - 1 through 5 (of 5 total)The topic ‘New Computer question (not about buying one)’ is closed to new replies.
