We just rolled out three small but useful CM Organizer Features.
Full support for 13-digit ISBN numbers for adding resources and linking to Amazon. This was only partially implemented before.
The ISBN field is now active by default when the add resource page loads. So now you can simply type an ISBN, press return, and quickly have many of your book details auto-filled. This also now works really well for adding resources with a USB barcode reader. Do any of you have one? If so, we’d love to hear how this feature works for you.
You can now search for resources by ISBN number in the CM Bookfinder. That should work well with a barcode scanner too.
Great work on the ISBN access – this is the way I enter resources almost exclusively. I have a request for the wish list – I wish we could enter the ASIN numbers that Amazon uses for things like dvd’s and board games. Any possibility?
No – sorry if I was unclear. This hasn’t worked, although I only tested it once out of curiosity. I just wish it did, now that I have added a lot of videos from netflix to my records. It would be an easy way to get the info in the organizer.
That would be really useful to have so I’ll put it on our list. We’re in the middle of building a big feature update so it will have to wait a little while, though.
Have a question, Doug, and am too pressed for time today to enter in the whole book. I’m trying to get Math-U-See Calculus into the Bookfinder. It is not already there, at least that I can tell ((I’m having trouble searching–I get nothing at all if I search Mathusee or Math-U-See but only math u see) So apparently the calculus isn’t there. It also isn’t there if I try to use ISBN number. Is there a reason for this, or am I doomed to type the whole thing in myself?
Yes, I mean calculus. I have the books and ISBN numbers right here on my desk. It is on the MUS site as a description. We suffered through and finished Pre-Calculus today! Yeah!!!! Now I have to pull out my 18-years-ago, social-scientist calculus memory and hope it’s enough to get us through. 🙂 Oh, and hope the physics applications aren’t TOO much harder than the social-science ones. 🙂
Looks like there’s a problem doing searches for words containing dashes that we’ll have to fix. If you search on “Math u see” it should find everything in the system.
