I do all of the banking in our house (my husband’s preference. He earns it, and then doesn’t want to think about it beyond that, lol).

I’m in Safari, and I can’t figure out what this coloured bar is either. I went to look for it after initially commenting, but it’s either not there, or I’m not sure where to find it…

@Lindsey – It’s really a mess around here.  I do all the cooking and home keeping too.  Really.  Aprons and all.  By design.  He would gladly help and often just jumps in anyway … like tonight’s dinner (bless his heart) he says he’s signing up at the local community college for a cooking class because it shouldn’t be this hard to feed his family!!  Apparently there was some sort of smoking/burning of things and a lot of redoing before we got in tonight!  He looked a little frazzled!  I should admit that my lawyer girlfriend made me add my name to all sorts of accounts after we all went through an accident that almost killed my husband.  She tried to explain I’d be very tied up if I did not have the access.  So at least I see my name on things from time to time. Ha ha.

Not all sites have the green bar. We don’t have it here. You can see what it’s like if you go to https://paypal.com, for example.

We were wondering if it would be worth spending the extra money to get that. It doesn’t really make us more secure because we’ve already done a good job of that. But if everyone was looking for the green bar to feel safe then it might be important for us to have it.

The green bar is like the lock showing the page is secure, but it also means that someone has researched the identiy of the site and verified that they are who they say they are. For example, they would check to make sure we’re a real registered business before giving us that level of security.

I check for the lock icon before ordering.  I’ve skipped on orders when sites haven’t had that.  I’ve noticed the green bar, but I’m fine ordering from businesses with just the lock.

I do like to see the green bar but other than using my bank online I never see it.  I do see the “lock” you are referring to and I do feel better about that.

I also only buy from a few places and I guess because I know enough people who also use them I feel safe.  But that’s probably not the right reasons.

I am worried about this new one they keep talking about and what I should be doing.. ah the love hate relationship with computers/internet.

I’ve never noticed a green bar anywhere, but green doesn’t necessarily stand out to me anyway.

I feel very secure on this site and wouldn’t want you to incur more costs just for a color coded bar.  The lock and your word on security are enough for me.

    Thanks for all you do!

I don’t see a green bar, but the letters “Pay Pal” are green, is that the same thing?  Agreeing with Tailor Made, please don’t go through any extra expense for a green bar!  We’ve always done it this way–no need to change! Wink

I do check for the “lock” icon in the address bar, and always kind of felt like that meant it was safe until some of the recent news reports.

There have been times (and maybe even on SCM?) Where I’ve gotten a pop-up window telling me something about a security certificate not being verified, and to be sure that the site I’m on is secure before ordering…although I haven’t seen that in quite some time. Still, that’s unsettling.

When it comes to SCM, I appreciate hearing that you are betting so proactive on this. And maybe it shouldn’t be this way, but you talking about it and what you guys do makes me feel more secure. Ya, pretty much I feel like if you say the green bar would be more expensive but wouldn’t add any more security than what you’ve already established, I take you at your word and think, “Well that’s good enough for me!”

Please don’t go to extra trouble/expense. My Paypal account was hacked even with a green bar. I’m always very careful but I’m not sure it matters in the day and time. They see to find a way. Wish there was a way to stop all the spam messages! That must be terribly frustrating to clean off every morning. Thanks for all you do.

We know we have the trust of those who have been around here for a while. If we did more it would be to help those who are still getting to know us and deciding if they can trust us. You all have answered my question in that most of you don’t have a lot of awareness of the green bar. That tells me that it probably wouldn’t help those who don’t know us either.

Yes. different browser present it different ways. All have some form of green.

Most of the time it’s just that someone forgot to renew a security certificate. But it can indicate a problem so caution is called for. As far as I know we’ve never had that problem on SCM. If you ever see something like that on SCM send me a screen shot and I’ll investigate right away.

Thanks, everyone, for helping us understand these things from your perspective. We appreciate your trust and don’t take it lightly as we work hard to do things well.

We keep very little money on our debit/credit card and just transfer when we need it, that way if something does happen they aren’t going to get much.  I do use paypal whenever I can but sometimes it isn’t possible.
