@pinkchopsticks – no, nothing showed on the allergy tests. We have taken out foods that often cause excema anyway, though, and still nothing was made better.
I am sorry the allergy test gave no answers. Hmmm…my nurse mind is working here. Do you feel like your doctor is on the ball? I wonder, with the extent of her rash if it could be something else besides/in addition to eczema?
We have seen a few doc.s. we have even tried treating her for yeast as that is sometimes a cause. Her doctor seems to care (and I do have much experience with doctors that do not care…unfortunately) about our situation and knows about my history of severe health issues and she really thinks that the anxiety (started when I was very sick) is a major factor that is playing into the excema. We are hoping that by dealing with anxiety issues, the physical issues will start to respond better to treatments and actually start to get better and be under control.
Prayers to your daughter and all of you. I just had my first panic attack last week, so I know a little about it. It would be especially scary for a 10 yr old.
My daughter had eczema for about a year when she was three and thankfully out grew it although her skin is still very dry. She needs to drink more water to help that though. But one thing we did was have her soak in oatmeal baths and that really helped.
I have also heard that stress/anxiety is related to the eczema.
I don’t have any particular suggestions about work you can do other than if you have the ability to get some training in something like medical billing or transcription b/c you can often do that from home, & it pays pretty well. There are some companies that hire phone customer service people to work from home if you have the ability to keep things quiet : ) What I did want to add was something on the side of dealing with the anxiety. I’m a professional counselor so of course deal with these things regularly…there are a few different therapies I know of that could be helpful (may already be something being offered by your dd’s counselor but just throwing it out there). One is Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (she may be having a trauma like response to your illness that this approach might help). Another is something I’ve only recently been learning about, & it may sound strange, but it has recently received recognition by APA as an valid form of therapy…it is called Emotional Freedom Technique & involves tapping on pressure points on the body while basically using some cognitive strategies…that’s the best way I can describe it. I am a pretty traditional counselor so wouldn’t normally pay any attention to something like this but there were some things that occurred that brought it to my attention so checked into it. You can search EFT & Tapping online…there are youtube videos, lots of info on it. Maybe bring it to your therapist’s attention to see if they will check it out.
I don’t have any suggestions, just prayers. I’m sure you’ve looked into everything you’re using on her body but we’ve had some success with changing laundry soap. There are only 2 or 3 brands of soap I can use or my son’s eczema goes crazy. He reacted so badly to a body wash or shampoo he had to go to the ER with blisters/welts over his entire upper half. Twice. Certain fabrics bother him as well (mostly polyesters) but one of my friend’s reacted to cotton. Perhaps something like the GAPS diet would help. It’s said to help with eczema. It helped heal my gut but we didn’t see much improvement on the eczema. Other people have seen great healing so who knows?
Your poor daughter sounds miserable. I hope you can find relief/help soon. Blessings.
