I need some reading options for my son.  I make him read a lot for school and really good literature.  I think he needs a break.  So what do I do?  I don’t want twaddle but I need something a bit more fun.  What are your suggestions?  He is very advanced reader I might mention also.  Thanks

Hmmm… I’m not sure what he has read, so I’ll just suggest some:

    Castleberry Farm Mysteries

    Anything by Piet Prins:

    Anything by Jim Kjelgaard

I wonder if he would like The Complete Father Brown by Chesterton?

I will look into the 1st 3 mentioned – as for the Chesterton it’s on my list for him for this next year.  Thanks so much

    Misty,

I have a 12 yr old and I need summer reading options for him, but he is just the opposite. He has not read much and needs light, but not twaddle, reading. Thought maybe you could help me with that or if any others have some ideas. I was going to start him on a few of the Lamplighters books that I have. I also would like for him to read some G A Henty but don’t know where to begin or if I should reserve those for history lesson readings. Any thoughts would be appreciated..

PS also have a 15 year old daughter who could use some suggestions as well 🙂

    THANKS!!!

Books by Gary Paulsen were a HUGE favorite of my sons.  Rascal by North, Kind Arthur by Pyle, Swiss Family Robinson, Holes, the Giver, The hobbit and the Narnia Series.  The lord of the Rings etc.  Those are just a few.

Thank you! He has read Gary paulsens books. We started The Hobbitt and he really didn’t take off with it. We will try some of these others.

What about Johnny tremaine? Would that be considered enjoyable reading for summer?
