I’m looking for a site that has the words and music together. I have songsandhymns.org and scripturesongs.net bookmarked/pinned, but they don’t have a large selection of what I’m looking for. I’m looking for the Baptist hymns I grew up with, and most of what I’m finding is either lyric sheets or instrumental.

    TIA,

    Karen

I haven’t found anything online that has the song with lyrics and music that we could sing along with (I even desperately tried youtube)  ;(

We currently use http://nethymnal.org/  it has the lyrics that you have to sing & music as well as a photo and small history of the song and/or writer/composer. There are also links for MIDI files and links to more info. about the writer and/or composer.

We have also used Stories of the Great Hyms (last year) along with listening online.

Next year I am planning to buy a Hymnal with CD that we can sing along with such as this one>

I’m not sure if this helps you, but I’ve just downloaded Exalted Worship by Scott Krippayne from Amazon.  It is a mixture of beautiful hymns sung by Scott Krippayne and prayers from Valley of Vision read by Kirk Cameron.  I downloaded it to my Kindle Fire and am planning on using the hymns on the CD to learn for hymn study.  Lyrics can easily be looked up, but I was having trouble finding simple arrangements that the kids could learn along with.

You can listen to samples here:  http://www.amazon.com/Exalted-Worship/dp/B0031RBG16/ref=tmm_other_meta_binding_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1357576189&sr=8-8

When I said I’m looking for something with words and music together, I meant I want to hear someone singing it. I want to be able to play it in the background while we’re doing other things.

I’m also looking for something free. I don’t have a kindle or nook or anything like that.

I’ve been searching youtube, but that can get time consuming. I was hoping there was something easier.

I haven’t used this one but came across it while searching for something else:

    Songs of Praise

Once you click on the song Title it takes you to a page where you can choose which format to play and has the lyrics down below. Having different languages is a nice feature.

Not free, but I like: http://www.amazon.com/HYMNS-KIDS-HEART-PLUS-CD/dp/1581345054.  There’s a nice story about the hymn writer and devotional to go w/each hymn. Hope you find what you’re looking for:) Gina

On youtube, I’ve used a few by THENBA. If you search that name, you’ll find their videos. They have the traditional songs with all the verses. We as tarted with Be Thiu My Vision last year and we all learned all 5 verses. Since then we’ve done others from them.

    Hope that helps a little.

We use the book and cd set of Hymns for a Kid’s Heart. There are 4 volumes of it. But I have saved these links from prior SCM posts:

    http://www.songsandhymns.org/hymns/

    http://www.oldlandmarks.com/hymns.htm

I found this for some nice unit studies on Christmas songs, but no songs:

This site is free to listen to each hymn with or without words online OR to download songs to listen, and you can print the sheet music with words too.

I have Spotify (free) on my desktop and my phone and there are many many hymns available, mostly by contemporary artists, so I’m not sure if that appeals to you at all. Today we started “It Is Well with My Soul” and we listened to it by Hillsong on Spotify. I printed the lyrics and a composer bio off of the computer and we sing along with that until they have it memorized.

    Thanks for your help, ladies.

@dztamra, I bookmarked the youtube link.

Anybody else out there know of sites that have audio files of the hymns being sung, preferably with traditional-style accompaniment?

Try a streaming site like Pandora. You tube is almost a certainty. Search by name of hymn.

It looks as though if you go to Hymns for a Kid’s Heart website you can listen to and read the hymns for free. Here is the link:

    http://www.hymnsforkids.com/

It just has the music, not the singing that you would get if you bought them.

    Try this site:  http://www.wels.net/streams-media/radio/traditional

they offer other styles as well on the left side of the page.  (This is our Lutheran church denomination.)
