Hi all, I am very overwhelmed about planning, I am just not the best planner but we need structure in our homeschool. I have never been a boxed curriculum type though, but I am too all over the place right now looking at SCM, Ambleside and Old Fashioned Education. I just want to take from each and make up my own thing! I have been looking at Planning Your CM Education and am wondering if the book is okay without the DVD and if this would help me a lot or if just reading the series online is the same, aside from some worksheets/forms? Also, once I get a schedule together could I post it here for some input? Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hmm, you can do it with just the article series, if you want. However if I remember right that doesn’t show pictures of the forms/layout, so if you don’t learn well without seeing examples it may be difficult. The book has those examples pictured for you (plus blank forms to fill in your own). I love it. You don’t need the dvd.
And yes! Post the schedule you work up or post if you get stuck along the process. 🙂
I have the PDF book, but haven’t seen the DVD. The book explains everything very well. The nice thing about the PDF files is that you can type onto the forms and then print them out. Sometimes I like to type the info right on the page, and sometimes I print them out, then write in the info.
I found it very helpful with planning out my own resources and use it every year when starting out my plans. I even like to re-read the book as I’m planning!
wow, that sounds awesome! I really am so bad at planning and getting organized that I feel a need to have my hand held so to speak as I do it lol I’ll check it out and see what I can come up with and post it, thanks so much!
I also pull resources from here and there and make our own plans each year. The first year, I read the articles, the books/forms, and watched the dvd. Then I reviewed the dvd each year after. But this year, I did not need any of it. I just make my own schedules in Excel and then edit them so there is not too much scheduled, as I have a tendency to overschedule at first. All the books must be doable in the number of school days, and not too much to be stressful.
I really like the planning book and agree that you don’t need the DVD.
I need the book to help me remember to break the big picture down into day-sized bites. I’ve had my copy two years and have read through it both years while planning.
I watch the DVD and use the book because I appreciate the reminders and refocusing on CM method and find encouragement in it. I also kinda feel like Sonya herself is helping me through the process (yes, I need that help). I get easily overwhelmed and over schedule on my own, ha!
But I do agree, the book is well written and explains the process well. I am obviously a visual learner, lol.
That is one reason I love SCM cedargirl – they offer things in different formats for us to learn from in our preferred style! Their DVDs have always been excellent.
