    If anyone lives in Virginia and has any advice on how to best submit an NOI and what are the best ways to add a curriculum or programs that qualify in my state.

    I live in Virginia and I used a template from HEAV and simply handwrote the subjects I would be teaching this year on the backside of the NOI. Nothing more specific than Bible, history, nature, etc. This is my second year homeschooling in Virginia (I handled it the same way last year) and I just received my approval letter last week as well for this year. I am in James City County (Williamsburg) and our districts are very homeschool friendly. I hope that was helpful!

    Hello and thank you for your response.  I was at our local offices the other day and submitted the NOI along with a curriculum and was told that the curriculum had to be from an outside institution and not one that i prepared so i am lost as to what the law mandates I was under the assumption that as long as a curriculum was submitted that it would be fine but the woman at our local office said no.

    That is incorrect. Are you a member of hslda? Contact them and they’ll straighten it out for you. In the meantime you can print the state requirements and highlight the option you fall under and submit that with your NOI. Do not give more info than you are required. Many front office people in the districts really don’t know what the laws or or what they are allowed to request. Best to you!

    Thank you, I have signed up for membership with HSLDA I will follow your advise and provide anther NOI with the printed state requirements.  I felt like I hit a brick wall to be honest, it was not a warm reception at all, the staff member at the school department turned cold when she realized I wanted to home school and things went down hill from there.  Thanks so much for the advise and help.  Ill let you know how it goes and have a great rest of the summer.
