We’re new to CM this year and exCITEd about getting our new curriculum picks and starting asap! I’m super excited to hear Sonya Schafer speaking today, as well 🙂 My question is, does the SCM vendor carry most of the curriculum recommendations with them to conferences OR should I plan on buying them through the online SCM bookstore afterwards??? AND<< I’m totally excited about the new Picture Study Portfolios (woohoo! and THANK YOU!) and was wondering if I will be so lucky as to get my hands on them as well today??? Thank you!!!!
Sorry I didn’t get to reply sooner, as you are probably already at the conference! I am sure you will have the opportunity to speak to Sonya and/or Doug and/or their families at the SCM booth, so they can better answer the question as to what you should purchase there. I’m not sure if this is the case today, but many times vendors will offer a discount code at a conference that you can use for a limited time afterward to purchase additional products online. And, since several of the SCM products are available in e-book format, you wouldn’t need to pay shipping costs for those.
I hope you find what you need and come home with an armload of terrific curriculum materials!
Sue_mom, thanks for the reply, and I DID come home with a bunch of stuff, I cannot wait to get started!! I also bought the Picture Study Portfolio featuring works of Giotto—LOVE IT! It is gorgeous! 🙂
Hi my3boys! I’m actually looking at the prints right now thinking how they are a perfect size to frame, and the colors are gorgeous and that I think it’s a shame to put them back in the portfolio ! LOL!
So where in NC do you live MonikaNC? I’m in Raleigh and am a little jealous (but happy for you!) that you were able to shop at the NCHE conference. We went 2 years ago and I had just started my homeschool journey. I would love the opportunity to browse the Simply Charlotte Mason’s booth again. Especially with all the new and wonderful things they have come out with!
It’s probably too late, but if you want to meet the author of the Picture Study Portfolios, Emily Cottrill, she is at the NCHE conference this weekend helping Jan Bloom. Go by Jan’s booth and you will probably meet Emily and her mother, Liz. Emily is the pretty red-haired girl.
MrsKatie, I live in the Winston-Salem area, they had the NCHE conference here in town this weekend. I ended the conference happily and refreshed—it is so encouraging to hear Sonya Schafer speak!! I would definitely recommend coming out next year, if you can 🙂 We have just completed our first year of homeschooling, and will begin our new “year” next month with a whole new approach using the CM methods. I am VERY excited! From what I understand the NCHE is held the last weekend of May every year (falling on Memorial Day weekend). Something to look forward to–hope you can make it next year!! 🙂
PobinP–thank you for the tip! I actually spoke with Mr. Schafer quite a bit at their vendor booth (he was so friendly and extremely helpful! 🙂 ) and we spoke about the Portfolia quite a bit. It was his tip today (I only just read your post) to go chat with Emily. I beelined right over LOL! She is sooo incredibly friendly and fun to speak with! She also shared an interesting tale about Thornton Burgess as well, since I was there, buying his books at the same time 🙂 What a neat experience!
