I was so excited to start this since I love Ann Voskamp but we are only on our 3rd lesson with it and my kids are not interested AT ALL. Does anyone have suggestions on other materials we could use to cover the same areas?
I was hoping someone would chime in! We are not crazy about it either. My 7 year old daughter does enjoy the map drill – surprise to me! Earlier this summer I saw some threads by other moms on this forum about not liking this book, but I had already ordered it for the lessons in Joshua through Malachi and Ancient Greece. I’m not sure exactly what I do not like about the book…. maybe it is too wordy? I’m thinking of looking for a children’s nonfiction book for each country at our library. Some may say they are not living books like CM suggests, but surely the beautiful pictures will bring the lesson to life.
hmmmm….. maybe someone with more experience can offer suggestions…..
We limped along through this (I edited a lot on the fly to make things more concise at times and we did skip a few sections), but found several other books that helped bring things to life a bit more. Window on the World, Children Just Like Me, and Material World each brought something different to the study and you may want to check them out and see if they meet your needs at all.
A while ago someone recommended A Sojourn in Africa as a possible replacement for Letters from Egypt. They have two other books in the Aunt Laura series. One is Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I’ve not personally read either, though.
