Hi There, I’m looking for some good books about the World Wars (1&2). It would be for our highschoolers. My oldest daughter has read The Hiding Place and my boys will read that too. I’ve just realized that I don’t know very much on this topic and don’t have any ideas for living books on this topic! Any suggestions?

Albert Marrin has some fascinating biographies of people related to the wars (Hitler and Stalin), as well as a couple on American involvement (The Yanks Are Coming and Victory in the Pacific). The War to End All Wars by Russell Freedman is very good.

Sonya, to piggyback this, would you say the ones you recommend might be appropriate for a 14YO in 8th grade? He has a strong interest in WWI, and I have no idea what books to give him to read on this. We aren’t there yet in the SCM history modules, but he is always reading so I try to find things that are educational but what he would choose as far as topic/time period.
Just not sure if these are appropriate. I have no issues with the reality of war, because we talk about it and he is mature for his age. Just wondering your thoughts on youngest age you would recommend for these?

I was just now looking at a sample of All Through The Ages and thinking it would be helpful to have! Does she include movies as well as books?
It looks like the books Sonya suggested are the ones most Christian curriculums go for. Too bad none of them are on kindle :o(

incredible resource. It’s worth all of it’s 27.00. I don’t expect to have to use any history “curriculum” thanks to this

Along the lines of The Hiding Place, Evidence Not Seen is a great book. It’s an auto-biography of a missionary that was taken prisoner by the Japanese.
