Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I know that I need to be working out. I am looking for a good exercise program I can do at home, preferably in the comfort and privacy of my living room, whether that’s a DVD or just some exercises, I don’t know. I prefer to exercise in the afternoons while the children are resting. I used to have a gym membership, and I enjoyed doing Zumba there. But we cancelled the membership to use the money on other things we felt were more important. I don’t like being sweaty or out of breath, but I know that I need to tone up and get in better shape. Walking is a great thing to do here 8-9 months out of the year, but we’re getting to that time where we’re going to have extreme north winds, rain and/or snow, and bitter cold.
Also, I’m not looking to lose weight, just tone my muscles and get rid of some extra inches in my thighs and tummy. My weight is ideal for my height, but I would like to see some tone in those areas.
Those of you who exercise at home, what do you do?
For toning I have and love the T-Tapp dvds, though being late 3rd trimester I’m not able to use them. Go to the site, watch video clips, read articles and testimonials, hop on their forum to ask questions if you want – that is what I did before buying. You really do get results – I began it just before this pregnancy (10th pregnancy, 7th baby) and lost inches everywhere, then when my belly began to grow I kept losing inches in other areas for a while. I can’t wait until I’m back to using it! I’ve only done T-Tapp More, but will work up to the regular dvd set after my C-section.
I too hate exercising…but with that said, I have become addicted to kettlenetics!! Here is the program I have, it comes with the Kettlebell, but there are others you can get as well. I do this program daily and I LOVE IT!
I can not recommend enough the workout video I have actually been faithfull for for 9 months now. I also hated exercising. Didn’t have the time. I mean I have 7 kids who does and hated the noise, person talking, or the music.
This video is no more than 12 minutes of exercise (plus a 5 warmup). It is quick and I have lost 16 3/4 inches and 24lbs. I get up 20 minutes earlier than I want and go at it. It is a very intense workout. All you need is a couple weights (or cans of soup), a band (or if you’re really fit a pull up bar – which I am still not) and your muscles.
Go to http://www.maximizedliving.com and you can get the video. It comes with 2 options the super fast work out which is only 6 minutes or the fast which I mentioned is 12 min. I love it. Also, on the website are some great meals.
Well I just wanted to share. As I tell everyone about this one as I have loved it and seen great results. Also, my kids if I want can try and keep up with mom!
I have learned to like exercising. No, it’s not my favorite thing to do, but I Iove how I feel afterwards..energetic and toned!
Here’s what works for me…I do a workout routine on the treadmill (or outside if weather is nice) three three times a week. The other two days are a workout video with weights.
All you need is 20 minutes of solid exertion to feel the difference. Studies have shown that a hard workout of 20 minutes is actually better than a longer 45 minute not-so-hard routine.
My recommendations are :
1. Jillian Michael’s interval workout videos (they are about 24 minutes with cool down)
2. If you are interested in running, there is an awesome book called Run Like a Mother (very inspirational for me) for moms
3. A book called This is Why You’re Fat has some great workout suggestions too that I have used (especially the treadmill program)
I really like my elliptical. It burns a lot of calories and helps tone muscles and work the heart. I put my mind on something I watch on a dvd like a good old movie or a homeschooling dvd. That is really the only time I can fit tv viewing in and I never run out of something I’ve been meaning to watch. I also have a stationary bike and Wii Fit and several workout dvds, but the elliptical is what I turn to the most.
Lindsey, you mentioned you enjoyed doing Zumba at the gym. I have a confession to make – I’m a Zumba addict! I absolutly love to dance! I tried for years to find something that would really stick for me, and for the past 2 years, Zumba has. I enjoy the live classes, but when I can’t get to them – This set of Zumba DVD’s for home, is a blast. Blessings, Heather
I really like Leslie Sansone’s walking DVDs. I’ve been using them for many years, tho I will admit I am not faithful to exercise regularly. I find it best to get up early before the kids and do it then and lately I haven’t been able to peel myself out of bed. Nonetheless, I really like the DVDs and have quite a few so I have good variety. They all go by “miles” and I usually walk either 2 or 3 miles at a time. Hope you find something you enjoy!
One thing to remember is if you don’t surge things will not work. You are better off doing something for 20 seconds as hard as you can and then a rest of 20 seconds then doing something for 3 minutes at a ok pace.
Sorry about that link here’s the correct one. http://www.maxt3.com Don’t let the 15 minutes make you think it’s easy. Cause it’s far from it. Also, there are 3 people at all times ont he screen. Easy, Medium and Maxium. Even after 9 months I am still 75% at the easy. My dh has done it with me and thinks I’m nuts (and his job is super physical). This is not a cake walk. You will sweat without a doubt.
I love to exercise. At the moment I get up about 5:30 and walk 4 miles (in about 50 min.) then come in and walk stairs for 10 min. We do pilates at night. I have tried many exercise videos and struggle with them being immodest. I don’t want to look at it itself let alone have my little ones look at it. Does anyone know of any that aren’t immodest?
I did the Couch to 5k app on my iPhone and ran a 5k on Thanksgiving. I loved it! It’s gotten cold and I haven’t run since. But I want to! I just ordered Run Like a Mother for further inspiration. Lol Thanks for the title Simple Home!
