do we have to be evaluated by an evaluator?

     What about handing in portfolios.

WOuld someone outline ALL that we

need to do.   I am so confused.  Thank you so much for your help

Hi Kristi, All we have to do in  NC is keep an attendance record sheet and do standardized test every year. Then you send copies of these to the state at the end of your school year. That is it. No portfolios required. Have you registered with NC Division of Non Public Education yet? If you do this by sending their postcard they send you back with the info about your school by Sept 30 you will not have anyone visit your homeschool. They are also offering to do this at their website now. Call them if you are not sure how to do this.Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more questions answered and I will try to help!! Welcome to NC!! Can I ask where you are moving to? Blessings,Wendy

I read my post and wanted to make something clear that I think sounded confusing….if you choose to send in copies of your attendance records and standardized test scores, then you will not recieive a visit from DNPE. These have to be sent in by June 30 each year. Hope that clarifies what I said:)

And you don’t have to start anything legal until the year your child turns 7.

I need to piggyback here. We may be moving to NC in Oct. with my dh’s job to the Raleigh area. How does this work if you are moving mid-school year? My kids are 8, 10 (11 next week), 13 this Friday, and 14 (15 in October). Any advice would be greatly appreciated (not to mention prayers Smile). We will know within the week if this is definatly going to happen. But my heart says that it will. It just feels like the time is right. 🙂 I will let you know when I know. God bless!

Hi Malissa, When you move just contact ncdonpe(NC Dept of non public education) and tell them about your intent to homeschool and I am sure they will help you. I think they do have a new law where you cant start a new school during 2 months but I think that is in May and June and they DO consider extenuating circumstances which your move would be. Let me know if I can help you more:) Wendy    ALl you will have to provide is your childrens ages and your intent to homeschool.
