My daughter’s sixth birthday is coming up, and I’d love some ideas for goodie bags. Last year I did bird feeder kits by just sewing up some little cloth bags and filling them with a huge pinecone with thread to hang, bird seed and peanut butter. I’d love to do something in the same vein this year. I am NOT a fan of junk toys, candy (sometimes I’ve done honey sticks), etc. I used to resist doing any goodie bags at all, but they’re so expected in our area, that I gave in, but try to do something a little less gimmicky. Nature themed would be great, but I’m open to any suggestions!
Plant, animal, insect or bird sticker books. Small package of seeds, a small pot and some soil. Kid sized set of gardening tools. Flower/leaf press (homemade or made at the party. They can search for press-able samples as one of the party activities). Field guide and small magnifying glass. Bug viewers. Cut flowers (start with a bouquet as part of the decor and send each child home with one of the flowers). Veggie seeds and cute, homemade veggie markers. Nature themed scavenger hunt with a small notebook to record all their findings as “nature explorers”.
I saw that Acorn Naturalists has animal track bandanas. That could be fun to tie stuff up inside. They are a bit pricey, though. Maybe you could put together local animal track ID cards, put them on a jump ring, and tuck them inside a regular bandana?
These are all great ideas, thanks! I did some online searching after I posted too, and I saw this really cute and easy (and cheap) nature notebook made from a blank greeting card. So I found a bunch of nature themed cards on Amazon to do those. I saw a pack of assorted different cool rocks (non tumbled) for a really good price, so I think I’ll add a couple of those, the notebook and then a cheap little magnifying glass.
I love these ideas though, so I’m storing them away for future parties!
