I recently discovered the idea of using loupes and pocket microscopes when studying nature.  I think what made me think more about it was our recent experience with noticing pillbug babies  (previous post about frustrating adults) – so small they were hard to really see.  We’ve used magnifying glasses before with really tiny things, but am intrigued with using something a little more powerful.  Have any of you used these?  Are they helpful/worth it?  Also, there are so many different kinds/manufacturers/prices – how do you possibly decide?  I’d appreciate any advice you could give.  Smile

    Thanks!

I am always ready to recommend one of my favorite tools – The Private Eye loupe.  Cheap and high quality.  We have been using ours for going on three years and have not broken one yet.

I ordered mine with the lanyard, and it was a good purchase.  They are light as a feather and very handy around the neck every time you go on a walk.  Also good for hanging on a nail by the door, so they are always where you can find them!

Also have the private eye book and it is great.

Thank you ladies – I haven’t heard of either of these before.  I’ll have to check them out!
