I love the idea of Nature Study. My children love nature and the science they are most interested in, all pertains to nature and animals. And yet… I just can’t seem to get nature study done. Or maybe I don’t know how. I really would like our science “curriculum” to be nature study. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions?
I did come across this book a while ago, has anyone used it?
I’ve never used that resource. Really all you need for nature study is something to observe, curiosity, and perhaps a sketch book and nature guide. Simply go outside and find something that captures your interest and observe everything you can about it. If you don’t know what it is, use a field guide to look it up. If you’d like, sketch it into a notebook.
And one of the moms here has another great post about nature study in winter. (Although my spring peepers were singing their little hearts out this week during some warmer days!!! Spring really is coming!!) 🙂
If you are looking for something to follow, I was told about Five in a Row nature studies. I’m thinking about trying it. I know I could do this without a guide, but I like having something to follow. I had also considered using one of Queen’s nature studies: A Nature Walk with Aunt Bessie. My dd loves animals and the outdoors, so I don’t mind doing a study like this any time during the year.
