We just started nature study at the begenning of this semester. Dd is 14. I have her sketch 2 or more things that she finds interesting while outside. Is this enough for starters? Should I have her try to identify them or only if she wants to? I bought a Bird field guide that is for our area. I noticed that she read the book just for fun. I keep it out on the table just in case she sees something interesting she wants to look up.

I think it’s a great place to start. Also, I think it’s very reasonable to expect her to identify them and give any other information she’s gleaned from the guides and observations.
