We have the DVD, but not the book. We’re still on the 1st DVD of 3 in the set So far the lessons have been good — we’ve dealt with making greens since that is such a predominant color in nature but it’s never like a “stock” green, adding in layers of a color on a flower we drew including some shadows on the petals, and…something else.
I like it and feel like we need some guidance in this area to explore new ways of doing things, so in that sense I don’t regret buying it. But I don’t LOVE it like it’s the best thing ever. We all gather around the TV and do it together, which I think is a must for my kids (seeing me do it and put forth the effort personally). I do not feel like I’ve seen the lesson transfer over to their actual nature notebook entries, but I’m hopeful that will happen with continued use.
Thank you. I was trying to decide if this would be helpful for my nature loving boys at this time because I’m having a hard time fitting in drawing instruction and other wonderful CM activities with a newborn in the house. I was hoping that the DVDs would offer something that I simply can’t do right now.
I think they would be good for that — plus you’re just using good quality colored pencils and some paper, so it’s pretty mess-free and very open-and-go for the DVD. We do have to pause it once in a while to finish up what we’re doing before he gets ahead of us
As another option, I did just hear about some Juhn Muir videos on YouTube that were very good. Haven’t checked it out yet though. Although there is something very nice about a DVD on a bigger screen so that you are not dependend on your Internet connection and are not getting distracted by other things once you’re online. (Not that that *ever* happens to me, haha.)
Good luck with whatever you decide!
