I am not sure if this is a concern or not.  If I ask my DC to tell me all they know about a topic, they will jump around the story quite a bit.  For example, they were narrating about Joseph.  First they mentioned the coat, then they mentioned being sold into slavery and endiing up at the prison, then they mentioned the dreams he had of his brothers (before being sold).  Is this okay or should we work on things being in the right sequence?

    How old are your kids?

This is common with new narrators, especially young ones.  You can gentrly work towards them getting things in order.

My older ones are 10 and 8.  It’s mostly my 8yo that does this…I’m lucky to get more than one sentence from my 10yo.  Embarassed

You might encourage your children to draw while you read.  Fold a piece of paper in half, then half again until when you unfold you have 4 (or more if needed) “frames”. While you read they draw quick stick figure drawings, maybe write a word or name or two in each box.  Then when you ask them to narrate they have their own visual to help them stay on track.

I’ve been afraid to have them draw while listening and getting destracted, but maybe it will help.  I’ll give it a try on Monday.
