My 6 y/o just finished reading a book today that she’s been reading on her own time.  She reads on a 4th/5th grade level, so it wasn’t just a simple Dick and Jane type book.  I asked her to tell me about the story.  She didn’t want to, so I asked her what her favorite part was.  She says, “The end.  Chapter 10.”  LOL That was helpful.  I think we need to work on details in our narrations.  She did finally tell me a little bit about one part of the story and then told me that I could read the book if I wanted to know what the story was about.  (It wasn’t disrespectful, but typing it kinda sounds like it.)

That’s actually pretty funny! I get those same responses from my kids a lot too, especially the books they’re reading on their own. I don’t press the issue. If they want to tell me about it, they do; if not, no big deal. It usually comes out later, even a week later, that they remember something and want to tell me.

My son has said the same thing – not disrespectful

That actually made me laugh. I don’t think that is unusual or disrepectful…totally something 2 of my 3 kids would say.
