Hi!  My kiddos have seen the three Narnia movies, but we have not read any of the books.  I would like to do one as a read aloud and decided that it would be more interesting to them if we picked up where the last movie left off.  I researched the titles and there seems to be some differences in what order people do them in.  We would prefer chronological.  Any suggestions on what book to do?  Thanks!

C.S. Lewis recommended this order (which is chronological):

    The Magician’s Nephew

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

    The Horse and His Boy

    Prince Caspian

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

    The Silver Chair

    The LAst Battle

I’ve read all but the last two with my 8yo.  She says her favorites were the Magician’s Nephew and the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  We did the same order that Rachel said.

we read them in the order they were originally written in, which wasn’t entirely chronological  mainly because my husband’s set from childhood was published before CS Lewis suggested the chronological order 😉

but whatever order you read them you must read them!  some of the best books ever written!  and I suggest not picking up where the movies left off but read the entire series, there is just so much more depth to the books that is impossible to put into a movie.

    enjoy! 🙂

My DH prefers a chronological reading starting with Magician’s Nephew, but I think LW&W should be read first.  There is a big disagreement among fans as to which order the books should be read in.  lol

I honestly can’t remember the order we read them in…I know we listed to Magician’s Nephew on CD in the car, but I can’t remember if we read LW&W first or not.

Since you aren’t wanting to read the ones that they watched, I think Magician’s Nephew would be a good starting place.

I’m currently reading these books to my girls and I am not reading them in chronological but the order I read them in as a teen. I really don’t like the chronological order at all but then when you grow up with something one way it tends to be the way you like it no matter what lol.  I did come across this article on the reasons why it should be read in a particular order and thought it was interesting .  Hope that helps!
