Is it necessary to create a name for my home school for any reason, such as creating a high school transcript? Maybe it’s just me but it seems like a strange, kind of artificial thing to do. I am willing to be convinced otherwise, however, so please share your thoughts on this little matter. Thank you!
In LA, our homeschool must have a name when we register with the state. I only think about it when it is time to send in our yearly letter and have had to go look at previous letters to remember what I named it. When we officially began to homeschool, I didn’t want to name it Our Last Name Academy but now wish that I had. 🙂 I chose Evergreen Springs School because of the community that we lived in at the time, but we have moved since then!
I want a name but I can never decide on one. For a while it was Laurel Society but then I thought it sounded too corny. I do like the idea of having a name to make things more “official”.
We have cedar trees in our fence rows here……Fence Row Academy? Cedar School? School by the Cedars? We can’t even come up with a name for our farm! My husband’s last suggestion was Fiddle Fartin’ Farm…….we’ve since agreed to not discuss it. 🤔🐄
We needed one to register in a previous state we lived in. We went with the super creative name Last Name Family Homeschool. 😉 I ‘d like to have something nice for a diploma, but haven’t had any great ideas yet.
We use our subdivision name followed by Christian Academy. My son started out at a charter school with the name following this pattern, so we added Christian and went with the Academy distinction. It sounds so scholarly;)
Our garden name comes from a “mad libs” game we did a few months ago. My husband had me pick words without me seeing the story so at one point the characters ended up at Camp “Perfunctory Ocelot”, so our garden is going to be named Perfunctory Ocelot Farm. The more I say it the sillier it sounds. 🙂
Okay, who votes for Karen’s husband’s name? My hand is up, LOL.
We are not required to name our homeschool here in Ohio, but we decided to anyway. I even created a logo (was bored one day….that hasn’t happened again.) for it. Our church name is GracePointe, so we decided we were going to be M_____ Grace Academy. (M_____ being our family name)
I love naming things! We live in PA too so we aren’t required but it’s still fun. I make a yearbook every year so we put the name on the front of the yearbook. So, we were observing a robin’s nest with 4 eggs thus Robin’s Nest Academy was created…we now have 5 kiddos so it’s a little more removed from the “4 in a nest” idea but it was precious all the same.
Our farm is Hopewell Farm…meaning: hope well in Christ.
It can be corny to name it but if it’s just amongst your family it creates a fun memory too.
There is no requirement in my state to name our homeschool, but I wanted to so that I could put it on my daughter’s diploma. We have a creek that runs through our property, so I name it after that – Cedar Creek Academy. We have plans to move, but I plan to keep the name because I am fond of it.
We have a large natural sanctuary near us and many businesses have used it in their name. I searched and found that there isn’t a school that has incorporated it into their name so I named our school after it followed by Christian Academy. It sounds very official. 🙂
