I would like to study the names of Jesus with my little ones (9 and 5).  Any suggestions?

He really just had one name while on earth that he was given and referred to: “Yeshua”, which means Salvation. However, other names as more references to His character (which in Hebraic thought, a name is much more than just a title) Purpose (definitely Salvation), attributes, and Identity, i.e. the Bread of Life, Prince of Peace, Living Water, Son of Man, etc.

A book that is very good on the Hebrew Names of G-d is:

“His Names are Wonderful: Getting to know G-d through His Hebrew Names” by Elizabeth Vander Meulen http://www.amazon.com/His-Names-Are-Wonderful-Getting/dp/1880226308/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270085661&sr=8-1

    Shalom,

    Rachel

Ann Spangler wrote Praying the Names of Jesus and Praying the Names of God.  They were not written specifically for children, but there is a lot of good scripture and stories in each section.

I was looking at old posts, and also wanting to study the name of the Messiah. I understand that He has many names, but there is a name above all names that we are to call upon. Has anyone studied this out? He was never called “Jesus” when He was on earth. The letter “J” wasnt’t even a letter until after the original KJV was written, and now we have the Dead Sea scrolls also. There is so much to look at concerning this, just wondering if anyone else here has looked into it. Thanks everyone!

We did this over Christmas break, not super in depth, but looking up the passages and you make a paper chain.  Here is the link to the free print out for the names and verses.http://practicalpages.wordpress.com/2010/12/14/jesus-names-paper-chain/

Here is a more in depth name study I found recently: http://www.easyfunschool.com/article1679.html  There are some free (elegant looking) paper chain strips to go with this study here: http://www.hsprintables.com/files/NOJAdventChain.pdf

Kristen, I’d be interested to hear what you’ve found out relating to your search!

Just wanted to add that Jesus is not a Hebrew name. All Hebrew names have a meaning. This is why his name is not Jesus. but Yeshua. Jesus doesn’t have a meaning in the Hebrew. I think someone above mentioned this. There are different titles to G-d’s name. Also mentioned above. Each chapter in the Bible he is referenced as a title of something else. ex.-Almight G-d, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, ect… There once was a good song that had what each one was but I forgot the name of it. Maybe someone here can remember it. 🙂  I think that would be a good place to start is learning the titles by song.  🙂 Blessings on your journey of descovery!

Michael W. Smith’s  ‘You are Holy (Prince of Peace)?’  One of my favorites!  Here are the lyrics:

You are holy (You are holy)
You are mighty (You are mighty)
You are worthy (You are worthy)
Worthy of praise (Worthy of praise)
And I will follow (I will follow)
I will listen (I will listen)
I will love you (I will love you)
All of my days (All of my days)

    (Guys)
    I will sing to
    And worship
    The King who is worthy
I will love Him, adore Him
And I will bow down before Him
I will sing to and worship the King who is worthy
I will love Him, adore him
I will bow down before Him

    (Girls)
    He is Lord of Lords
    He is King of Kings
    He is mighty God
    Lord of everything

    He’s Emmanuel
    He’s the great “I AM”
    He’s my Prince of Peace
    Who is the Lamb

    He’s the living God
    He’s my saving grace
    He will reign forever
    He is ancient of days

He’s the Alpha, Omega, Beginning and End
He’s my Savior, Messiah, Redeemer, and friend

    (Both:)
Your my Prince of Peace and I will live my life for you.

You are holy (You are holy)
You are mighty (You are mighty)
You are worthy (You are worthy)
Worthy of praise (Worthy of praise)
And I will follow (I will follow)
I will listen (I will listen)

I just read a review in Homeschooling Today about a book titled, God’s Names by Sally Michael. It was highly recommended. You can see more here – http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1596382198/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1327891334&sr=8-1
