I am wondering if anyone uses Mystery of History? I am still in search of something that is CM friendly for my older childern. If anyone is using this, would you please tell me about it. How do you make it CM-like? Is there enough information? Do your kids like it?
Thank you so much for taking time out of what I am sure is a busy day, to answer my questions.
I had asked a similar question previously, but can’t remember the title of my post to link it to you. I’ll search for it later and post it. I know you’ll get lots of responses, so I will chime in in a bit. Thanks!
We are using it this year. My DC are enjoying it, especially my oldest who’s 11. There is just a short reading on each subject, and you can add extra books, videos, etc throughout the year. I think it’s very flexible and you can do as much or as little as you need. You can easily incorporate a Book of Centuries in place of the timeline. There is an activity for each age group each day, but we skip most of them. You could have them narrate the readings or make notecards as the book suggests, which is basically a written narration.
I used vol 1 last school year. My boys and I enjoyed it. We did it at our pace and I did not do any testing or quizes. We did the time line and loved it. When we came to a subject I knew would interest my guys, I would get books from the library to supplement. It took us 10 months to get through it, but we learned a lot.
We’ve used parts of MOH 1, all of MOH 2 and all of MOH 3. We LOVED it! I used it as a read aloud with younger (early elementary) kids. We did not do the activities. However, I did supplement with some living books. I have a few blog posts and some lesson plans here….
