We really enjoyed this book! I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of a similar book? We truly felt like we were living in the Catskill Forest with Sam. We all so enjoyed his thinking process on how to survive alone. Great book!!

    Thanks!

There are two others in this series –  ?? and Frightful’s Mountain

Shorter and simpler, but ds10, ds13 both enjoyed – Francis Tucket series by Gary Paulsen

Little Britches series by Ralph Moody – not exactly the same, but I categorize it so in my brain 🙂

The Lion’s Paw by Robb White – more adventure

Missceegee- I didn’t even think to look and see if there were others by the same author! Lol Thanks for letting me know. I think we might have read the Lions paw and I have been thinking about looking at the little britches series. I have never heard of the Francis Tucket series. I really appreciate your suggestions! 🙂

Jean Craighead George is a prolific author. You will find many more enjoyable books by her!

We listened to this series (My Side of the Mountain, et al) unabridged and felt that the first book was the best. While still interesting, the third book contained some environmentalist undertones wherein the kids involved were protesting the rebuilding of a bridge because of a falcon’s nest; it came across as a little anti-human. If this is a concern for you, you may want to consider another book. 🙂

We also liked the Tucket series by Gary Paulsen. But Ralph Moody is best of all, in our opinion!

    Happy reading!

Agreeing with Brooke’s comments, though we enjoyed all the books and simply discussed the issue Brooke mentioned.

Thank you so much Brooke for your insight! I tend to be the type to discuss as we go along when certain agendas come out. However, sometimes if it becomes too much to handle we will close the book. Thanks again!

We also LOVE Ralph Moody’s books!  And Moccasin Trail is another of our all-time favorites…somewhat similar genre.
