I haven’t read the books!!  How do I know they are narrating well?  Do you read all the books first, because I don’t think I would be able to do that.  I only require them to narrate science or history books they have read.  They generally read science books each day.  They got bored with the Nature Readers from Christian Liberty.  Now they are reading whatever is on the shelves or perks their interest at the library, and I have no clue what is in them, althought I do skim through looking for evolution stuff.  We start module 5 this year and I’m worried I won’t be able to keep up with them.

    Thanks

Paula  (OH, kids are 10 and 8)

LOL I don’t have time to read each book for my kids (although I would LOVE to have the time).  Usually what I do is 1 of 2 things.

    1. Let them narrate to me and then I will ask something specific from what they narrated.  I can usually tell then if they really read it and understood it.

    2. Skim through what they read and look for some specific questions and ask them about that.

Right or wrong I don’t know but I just can’t read books for 7 kids from high school to pre-school.  This is what I do and I know my kids well enough to tell if they are getting it or lost.  That’s just my 2 cents!!

Search “narrations” on here.  I seem to recall some good discussions about whether or not we should be reading what they are reading along with them.  Maybe the SCM team will comment too.  Or maybe that’s a great question for the ongoing blog posts on SCM about narration!
