After as long as two years of only so-so hearing, my daughter got her hearing aids today!
She has a lung disease that causes chronic ear infections among other things…She’ll be 9 November 1st and in that time has had 6 sets of tubes in her ears and (I am not kidding) over 75 ear infections. She also went through a time where she ran cyclic fevers. That, plus some neurological issues, caused a moderate degree of hearing loss in both ears.
While we first became corcerned about her hearing shortly after her 7th birthday (December 2010), but it took a back seat to job changes, newly dx epilepsy (April 2011) and just life. We spent all spring and summer going through intense neurological and hearing evaluations and finally picking what hearing aids would best suit her needs.
And she got them today. And I cried on the way home, as my daughter and I were able to have a conversation (with her sitting behind me!!), about all the things she was excited to hear and notice. 🙂 Thank God!
Thank ladies! It’s not perfect yet…we have another 4-8 weeks of tweaking the settings, her getting used to wearing them, and maybe speech therapy in front of us. But she’s so excited to hear, and He’s brought so far already. She just went to bed, and thanked God for her new hearing aids in her prayers. I’ll be doing the same for a long time!
