Today my post went live about how the following quote from Charlotte Mason is affecting our homeschool this year:
A morning in which a child receives no new idea is a morning wasted. (Home Education Vol. 1, p. 173)
In the post I was thrilled to be able to use the Picture Study video from SCM (thanks!). It’s from the Books and Things Seminar and was perfect for sharing more about picture study in my post.
If you want to read what I wrote you can click here.
From my glance…there is a girl in a white(?) dress sitting on the egde of a big chair with arms on it. It has a pitcher under it and plate in front of her feet. She seems to be looking at a kitty who is studying a goldfish in a bowl. The cat and the fish bowl seem to be sitting on a crate of chickens. There is a parrot on a stand by the window… There was lots more in there I am sure. LOL
I loved the painting too, which is why I used it. In case anyone was wondering, the artist is Eastman Johnson, who was an American painter living from 1824-1906. He was Co-Founder of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City! He painted quite a range, typically people. He painted the famous, the everyday people, and everyone in between. He even has a series of Ojibwe people and their dwelling from Wisconsin, as well as several with slaves/slavery as the main focus.
You can see more of his artwork free right here. Clicking on any picture will enlarge it for better saving in case you want to do a study of his work.
I think that does look like a crate of chickens, but I’m not sure what is in there due to the size in relation to the cat. Maybe rabbits? Guinea pigs? I see that the title of the piece is A Child’s Menagerie, so they could be anything.
