There have been many threads about using audio books in our homeschools and I stumbled upon a TERRIFIC resource for this. It is a site called My Audio School and it has organized all sorts of resources by subject and those that are historical by historical period. They offer ~ 25% of their material FREE (it’s a lot), but for $14.95 you can get a yearly subscription and access to everything they offer.
Now, all of these books/resources are free in the public domain, so you can search and find them on your own, but I LOVE how organized this site is! I subscribed this morning and can tell, that this will be a first stop for me when looking for audio books.
I don’t know how I had never found it before, either, but it is great w/ something for everyone. They offer group (co-op/support) discounts too. Here is what the owner sent me re. that:
The normal cost of a one year membership is $14.99. If you have more than 10 families that want to join, we can offer the following discounted rate:
11-20 families for $13.49 per family
21-30 families for $11.99 per family
31-40 families for $10.49 per family
41-50 families for $8.99 per family
If you have more than 50 families who want to join, we can arrange a group license for $450. That is the equivalent cost of 50 families at $8.99 per family. A group license would give every family in your homeschool support group access for one year, regardless of how many families you have. This could be very handy if you have a co-op, for example, as teachers could assign a book on the site and every child would be able to listen to it online.
The co-op I run has only 35-40 families and not everyone would be interested, but this could help some of you, too. Too bad, we at the SCM forum aren’t a group, we’d easily have over 50!
