I’d appreciate feedback. I’ve made my AG list, but want to know if any are excessively overlapping (I know some will naturally, based on context), but I don’t want to waste time on the unecessarily repetitive. I still think I’m going to have to reduce some as some of these are long and I don’t know if they can get through them without rushing and i don’t want that; much is covered in the Guerber spine. I have a tendency to want to cover EVERYTHING! Mine two are 12 and 13.

So if there are any here that you say are “no miss” ones, I’d like to know. THX

Hi, Rachel!  The Snedeker books are too young for your kids.  If you do Tale of Troy you donT need another Troy book.  (We like that one!)  I think Heritage History would work better than First Books for your ages. I myself would skip the Greek Tragedies book by Church.  I think he tells, um, a little much, even if it is from long ago!  I kind of like Church’s Herodotus book but then I’m a history nerd.  🙂  Everyone should read ONE Olivia Coolidge if you can find her.  She was AMAZING.  I’d like to be that smart and well-written when I grow up.  🙂  Flowers of Adonis (Sutcliffe) is really, really an amazing book.  For your ages it might need to be a readaloud though.  My kids haven’t read it, but I love it!  If you are doing the Guerber, then you really only need to select things you are most interested in–it’s all going to be covered relatively well.  We tend to pick war books, I have all boys.  🙂

    Good luck with the sorting!

Thanks, Michelle. I will keep the Herodutus-based books, because I’m trying to raise history-freaks like myself :). That’s good to know about the Trajedies book; I’ll hold off and the Snedeker book.

I can get all of the above mentioned Coolidge books at my library.

I know the two by Coolidge and the two by Green seem redundant, but I read elsewhere that they’re two approaches were so good and complementary, that they

    were not to be missed.

I may hold off the Darius and Xerxes for now and have them be read at another time; placing them within our Bible studies, perhaps. However, the Pyrrhrus one looks to cover a time at a real pinnacle of history after Alexander the Great died and I haven’t looked to see if it’s covered much in Guerber, whereas Darius is somewhat (don’t know yet about Xerxes).

Rachel, I just checked my Guerber (from YC/HH, not the Miller version) to refresh my thoughts. Darius and Xerxes each have at least 4 chapters covering their experiences and Pyrrhrus isn’t even mentioned from what I read. There is a small chapter on him in the FMoG, but not much. I think that the Abbott version from HH sounds like a great way to “see” those years. I am putting it on my list to read, too. =)

HI Sheraz; your conclusion is what I came up with, too. I nixed Darius and Xerxes (may be persued for personal interest or future time) and kept Pyrrhus. Those years after Alexander the Great’s death were very important (of course, to me, all periods are “very important”).

Up Next…Ancient Rome list! It’s even worse! Or better, depending on how you look at it.

    Thanks so much.
