I was wondering if everyone gets the DVD AND the teacher book. We are almost through with alpha now and I only used the teacher book for the first 10 lessons or so, guess til I felt familiar with the MUS teaching style. For the lessons after that the DVD was sufficiant to teach me and my DD the “whys and hows”. Now I am getting ready to order beta and I am thinking about passing on the teachers book. If you do MUS and / or already did beta, do you think it is necessary to buy the teacher book? Do you use both DVD and book or just one of them?
I only use the DVD for instruction. DD and I watch it together and then she does the worksheets.
I did start using the teacher’s book in BETA for the answers in the back. I could figure them out myself, but it is a whole lot quicker to use the answer key to check her work when she is adding or subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers. The answer key is in the back of the teacher’s instruction book.
If you are ordering from the MUS web page, the teacher’s instruction book and the DVD are sold together as a set. You can’t purchase them separately.
And the answer keys are REALLY helpful in Gamma and beyond, when I don’t want to multiply three digit numbers x three digit numbers, or do long division:) I would say I didn’t use them much in Alpha or Beta, but starting in Gamma we did. I also found that there is more information in the manual than the DVD so I always buy used teacher manuals online or at used curriculum fairs and we’ve gotten along fine.
