Oh boy I must have got slow on our Math cause my 9th grader is just starting Alebra 1 and that would mean he should be doing geometry? Oh well keep plugging along.
Yep, Alicia is correct. But I also wanted to say DON’T worry about it. My oldest did not begin MUS until 3rd grade, she had done Saxon and it was a total failure for her. We began ALPHA in 3rd grade. She’s just started Zeta this month and she’ll be 7th grade this fall. Behind the ‘traditional’ sequence but her understanding is solid finally!

I agree, Tristan,as Sonaya says, we should teach to the child not the curriculum.
That’s good because my to be – going into 8th grader – is only on Epsilon because he needs so much help and repetitiveness to remember it. But he makes progress so I am ok with that. I was just suprised with my oldest. But oh well no biggy we’ll keep moving along.
Misty, a question, do you do math year round (including summers)? That is the one thing that has been a huge blessing for Makayla, she’s been able to not have that ‘forgetting’ over the summer PLUS she’s been able to get an extra 2-3 months of work in MUS each year so she progresses through about 1 1/3 levels per 12 months instead of just 1 level.
Yes we do. He does great in all subjects without any issues. But math for him has always been a huge struggle. But in the summer we sit and I literally watch over his shoulder which seems to help keep him on track better. He does’t have a focus issue it’s more from saying it outloud to actually writing it on the paper. So summers I can devote more 1-on-1 time to help with that. Thanks Tristan I appreciate the care in offering, but we are doing it already.
Looks like we are behind too more then I realised. Will be doing math in the summer here too w/2 kids, and grammar w/one as well!! I will need to be very disciplined for that because I like to take a break from it all in the summer!!
Misty, when I was in school, the “average” 9th grader took algebra I (advanced 8th graders did take algebra). You are not behind at all. I have a DC that is 2 levels behind where she “should” be…She’s doing Gamma for 5th grade. I’m hoping we’ll get her somewhat caught up, but she really is where she needs to be!
