My son is in 6th grade. He has such a hard time learning and remembering his multiplication facts & using them. We use MathUSee & have temporarily stopped that and are just focusing on getting him where he needs to be to really know his multiplication before we move on. He is “behind” by a few years in math & is highly frustrated. We have tried everything we can think of to help him. He has not been diagnosed with ADHD, but fits the characteristics and everything. We are really starting to struggle with his attitude about school too. He also struggles with spelling and is behind in that area too. I am at a loss to know how to help him past this hurdle so that he can move on in his book. The spelling is getting better with the All about Spelling curriculum that we changed to. The MathUSee is really good & he does like it. I just don’t know how to help him progress & I really don’t know how to help him retain the multiplacation facts once he knows them. Anybody have some advice? Thanks.

If you allow computer games and he likes that (thinking on the ADHD as we have a son unofficially DXed with it as well), there might be some help there. There are many free sites that allow for drilling of multiplication facts.’

Does your son know the patterns and see them? I have a resource I created for my son, and he could really SEE it then. I could send you a link if you wanted via PM. I don’t want to link here as it is an external site. Not sure about the rules on that.

I have been looking at rapid recall for my son to help him with multiplication. It has great reviews but I just can’t afford it right now. LDImom, I am now following your Pinterest board. I also think I will be purchasing the card game from amazon. Looks great and affordable! Also, you are the one who recommended motl and now my son asks for math!! So thanks for that as well.

Oh, that is great to hear momof3. My boys still don’t love it, but they don’t cry or cringe over it either. Our two firsties LOVE math and I know MOTL has a lot to do with that. It is just such a natural way to do math.
I really want to get the Speed! card game too. It is on my wish list. BTW, they have some type of app in iTunes now as well. I keep meaning to check into that. Thought I’d mention in case anyone reading has a tablet and would rather go that route.

Rapid Recall by Little giant Steps worked wonders for my 6th grader who had difficulty with all facts. She has them all now with no problem. We continue to review periodically, just to keep fresh and increase speed. RR is expensive, but was worth every penny!
