    Dear friend of homeschooling,

HSLDA is doing everything possible through the courts to help the Romeike family find safe haven in the U.S. But there is more that can be done! By signing this White House petition, you can help make the Obama Administration aware of the grassroots support for the Romeikes’ cause.

I’m writing this email to you on Friday, April 5, just 13 days away from the petition deadline. So far we have 52,313 signatures of the 100,000 needed to guarantee a White House response. Anyone who is at least 13 years old with an email address can sign the petition. If you have already signed the petition—thank you!

If you haven’t signed the petition, it’s very simple. It only requires your name and an email address to verify you’re a real person and not a spam generator or hacker. Providing your zip code is optional. (Step-by-step instructions available here.)

Privacy concerns with the whitehouse.gov website? That’s understandable—but we encourage you to think creatively…and courageously! It takes only minutes to set up an alternate email account (such as with Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail) for your public advocacy efforts. Anecdotally, HSLDA staff report signing other groups’ White House petitions in the past and receiving no additional email as a result.

Let’s not allow fear of the government to stop us from standing up for what is right!

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

I am one of those who don’t like signing up for the whitehouse.gov website and this email gave me the idea I didn’t have before (duh!) of setting up a temporary email address specifically for signing the petition which I am able to cancel easily. I am disappointed in the 52, 000 and I am sure many of them have the same concerns as myself – which the temp. email resolves (for crying out loud, they’re already able to store our emails). With 48,000 left to go, we need every person who recognizes the importance of this case to sign the petition.

Personally, I don’t think the WH will give them assylum, but we must still try.

The courageous Deitrich Bonhoeffer quote that graced the top of the email needs to be written here:

Not to Speak is to Speak

Not to Act is to Act

Where is the link and what is the actual risk to use my e-mail address if I may ask?

And I have no idea what the risk is since the government knows all about us anyway! LOL!

I signed it, thought “ACK! Now I’m on their radar” 😉 and then decided it was time to draw my line in the sand. The local government is already aware that we homeschool – do I really think that we are invisible higher up? HA!

We follow the laws like this family did/does. If we don’t stand up and be counted, then when we will? The option to homeschool is being challenged for all US people by the Administration’s agrument, not just this particular family. That is what makes this so serious.

I have pondered the thought that they are testing the waters of public and judicial opinions before the next attack on our parental rights. If we won’t stand up, how much easier it is to present the argument that those “weird, unsocialized homeschoolers need to be in school learning the same Common Core stuff as everyone else – after all, it’s for the greater good.”

It’s a very personal decision for me to not provide them with my email address. Some people say that they have

everything already, but there are some things I don’t have control over; but I do need to have control over

certain things and not using Google, Facebook (I am getting ready to bow-out of) and not using my existing email addresses to make an opinion known to the government of a position I have that is contrary to this Justice Dept. and what I believe are the Administration’s philosophy – of this I do have control.

I am just very private and wary about my personal info. in this world of advancing technology that makes us very susceptable to 4th Amendment violations. Information is power and that maxim applies to both the individual and the government. I”m one fo those who puts the absolute bare-minimun of info. on forms-I don’t answer quesitons about sex, race anytrhing that isn’t absolutely necessary. For example, on the census forms, we only put how many people of voting age exist here for representation purposes (as that’s the only reason for the census) and that’s it – the rest the gov. uses for their own tracking and statistical purposes which we don’t want any part of.

Yes! These are my sentiments, too. People, unfortunately, see all of these actions as separate incidences; well, I don’t. They are indicative of a philosophy of governance, a philosophy that is not based on Nature’s Law and Nature’s G-D.

**Edit above: we put down how many live here, not just those of voting age, just that there’s 4 of us and that’s it. The gov. constantly asking for more info. from us.

I signed it despite the fact that it makes me a little paranoid!!

The idea of the govm’t putting it’s nose in our business really creaps me out.

We were considering moving to Costa Rica at some point and I then found out homeschooling is illegal and they can be real nazis when it comes to vaccine.

I really hope it never comes to this point here.

The petition needs less than 5,000 signatures now! Let your voice be heard. Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. Is signing a petition on whitehouse.gov risky? Maybe. But so is following Jesus, right? It certainly isn’t comfortable. The bible says over and over not to be afraid. It is a commandment and an admonition. When it is in our power to do good, why not do it. There will always be some kind of sacrifice for doing good to others.

^^^ I do not say that haughtily. It was an encouragement to myself as well… I’m certainly not strong enough without Jesus!
