Hi covingtonclan,
Maths is my dc most disliked subject so I am always looking for ways to improve this area. I’d also love to hear about MWM.
I’ve just started Math Mammoth Light Blue Series Grade 3 (A&B). I combine it with Ruth Beechicks ideas from The Three R’s -very practical. I use MM as a guide, some things we even do orally.
I have found that you can add manipulatives to most math programmes.
MM is easy to follow, cheap, it is no frills. The creator says it is important to know the WHY not just HOW, remember your main goals – to help child navigate this ever growing complex world and understand information around them, everything is a tool to understand including curriculum (it’s just a TOOL), never be a slave to any curriculum, you the teacher are what will really teach your child and to have fun with Math (a game is worth 1000 worksheets) and use everyday life to teach concepts (which helps with the WHY).
It is mastery based with a little spralling. Very plain & simple. I changed from MEP which was very changing & challenging, because I needed something less teacher intensive and to help dc master some basics better.
Sometimes the simplest ideas work the best, like Ruth Beechicks ideas.
Hope you find what you are after. I’ll cease my ramblings now!
Blessings
Renelle
