Moving-When should we start school?

We were planning on starting school Monday, August 13, 2012. Dd has an online science class that is starting that week, so we were planning on a soft start with just a few subjects.

I just got a call today from a real estate agent saying that her buyer was going to make an offer on our house and to expect it soon. I anticipate that her buyer will want a short escrow as they are moving in from out of state this weekend and will be living in a hotel until the house closes. We then would be moving from CO to CA. We will be moving our home and business. We have not found a home in CA yet.

So my question is should we go ahead and start school now and try to get in as much as possible prior to the move or just wait until after the move? My hesitation is that this is dd first year of high school.

I’d start the online class on Monday as planned.  But wait to see what the offer is before determining a start date for the rest.  If close is in a week then you’ll be too busy to do much schooling while you pack.  One of the blessings of HS is that you can flex.  It’s ok to start in September.  In fact, I grew up in CT and school doesn’t start until after labor day there.

Congrats on the upcoming offer for your house!

We are moving next week from TX to AK (as probably everyone knows now~I feel as though that’s all I talk about!), and we will be on  the road for over a month.  I have spent my entire summer stressing about having everything planned so that we could start while on the road.  Well, guess what~most of it is going with the movers!  We will be doing some math, definitely nature study (the AK ferry will be a great opportunity) and a whole lot of reading on some of the areas we will visit along the way.  I am going to try using the CM organizer this year, and I plan to set the “offical” start date for November 1st!  That is crazy hard for a Type A mama like me to do, but the stress and worry got to be too much, and then I realized there was really no reason for it.  My children will be learning all sorts of great things on this trip; the move will be a lot for all of us without worrying about school; and we are going to sit back and enjoy ourselves a much needed vacation!  So there is my solution, for what it’s worth!  🙂

Oh, and I would totally be dropping that class, unless DD really wanted to do it or I thought it absolutely necessary!  🙂

If you start the online class, will he be able to keep up with it during the move or will it cause stress? Is it possible to take it next semester?

It is very comforting to me to see other families in the same boat as us. It has been our dream for almost four years to move to Tennessee and the Lord has now provided the opportunity. We are moving on the 27th of August from Connecticut to Tennessee. I had planned on starting our school year on Sept. 5th. I have everything all written out and planned but I am not sure that day is going to work. Alas, the good Lords plans are always better than mine. We will just have to wait and see. Prayers for all of you who are in the same situation 🙂

    Blessings,

    Terry
