  • We’re in VA right now. I consider this state to be homeschool friendly. From what I read about KY, it seems hostile for homeschooling the CM way. My 6yo DS is starting his foundation year this year. I am feeling an enormous amount of stress now wondering how to meet the state’s recordkeeping laws. I’m just baffled by providing 6 hours of instruction when I’m following a CM philosophy. How can I combine CM for a foundation year with the state’s requirement of 6 hours a day without Lying?

Also, do you have to conduct “school” according to the public school? So, do you still have the freedom to schedule your own “in session” days and “vacation” days, separate from the school system?

For those ladies who live in KY, have you had to verify often? Have you felt like you had to prove yourself to be homeschooling your child? The way I read the law, it scared me.

I’m pretty much just concerned about how to schedule our days and keep records that are sufficient to satisfy any officials without losing the CM philosophy along the way.

That is very interesting. Although I am not from KY, I had a friend who lived there and homeschooled, and she said it was one of the easiest states to homeschool in! But, I don’t know this for sure! I hope so though for your sake! But according to her, your homeschool was ran as a private school, and you didn’t even have to send in a portfolio, or test….but, I am not sure about the 6 hours a day thing..hopefully someone can give you some better insight to this…good luck, and don’t be too discouraged yet!

I do like the idea that the homeschools are run as a private school. Thanks, and I really hope that it is easier than it sounds!
