This has been a big question in my mind – Is the time saved worth the added water expense? We’re doing a trial right now and I’m REALLY loving the time saved, but when our water bill comes ????, hmmmmmm. I’ll let my husband decide (he’s had a much happier wife to come home to, so maybe, just maybe….). All kidding aside, we must weigh things carefully, especially if it comes to a 50% jump in our water bill.
Actually I have read over and over again that washing by hand actually cost more water due to leaving the water running to rinse dishes. You should never rinse dishes in a sink of water as it does not get all the soap off the dishes which in turn can cause you to become very ill.
Sorry to drag this out again, but can anyone comment on the fact that in using our dishwasher, I’m finding some things are beginning to rust. (???) Like some tongs and a can opener we have that were handwashed many, many, many times before but never showed a sign of rust.
We’re trying/using the Cascade Complete with bleach (dh bought it up for me and didn’t notice it had bleach) and the JetDry. Could it be the bleach?
I am pretty sure all dishwasher soap has bleach – it sure all smells bleachy. I think rust on items in the dishwasher comes from the drying process – instead of being wiped dry, they are dried with heat. Maybe the heat adds to the slight natural rusting process of oxidizing metal.
