Well, I just went down the line of people and/or events of the time period and entered them as a search at Netflix.
A few that I found are:
A&E Bio-Joan of Arc; Queen Elizabeth 1;Da Vinci-I’m sure there are more if you search
History Channel Documentaries-The True Story of Marco Polo; Da Vinci; Knights and Armor
Joan of Arc w/Ingrid Bergman 1948
St. Francis of Assissi and the Franciscans-2004 (documentray)
The Adventures of MArco Polo-Gary Cooper -1938
Marco Polo-2007 movie
Robin Hood TV Series (my children love this with Richard Greene) Vol 1 and 2, 1950’s
Robin Hood – D.Fairbanks
Adventures of Robin Hood-Errol Flynn (we enjoyed this one immensely, when they were7)
Mary, Queen of Scotland-2-Katherine Hepburn-1936; and Vanessa Redgrave-1971 rated PG-13
There are seeral Scotland documentaries; one that is music based as it follows Mendelsohn through his visit as he was inspired there. Scotland was very important during this time period, as you know.
The Normans:The Complete Epic Saga. A 3-part series, looks very interesting; it’s on my waiting list.
I could’ve gone on and on. Just type in people, events or places and look thorugh the choices. I’m sorry I don’t have more first-hand accounts for you; I have for the Vikings, but your slightly ahead of me.
Oh, there’s a “Christopher Columbus” movie with Frederic March; “The Virgin Queen” with Bette Davis (from my TQ guide, recommends parental decision due to 1 or 2 spots, but it’s old enough where I don’t think it’d be too offensive)
I hope that gets you started! I could be at it all day going through the Renaissance and Reformation.
Here’s a website with titles of whiolesome movies about Chistian History, like John Wesley, one on the Children’s Crusade, MArtin Luther, John Bunyun, John Wycliffe, John Hus (a Bohemian priest), the making of the KJV, the Anababtists, the Scottish Covenanters, Zwingli and Calvin, Celtic Saints (into the Dark Ages, but oh well), Calvinism.
