Are there any good movies/tv shows that I could use to supplement my child/children (oldest is 1st grade) for ancient history next year? Just to give more of a visual. I have Netflix but not sure which direction to look. Any info will be helpful
To be honest, most of the documentaries we watched this year didn’t hold the interest of my 1st grader (although my 10 yo learned a lot). However he did enjoy “The Story of One” which tracks the history of the number 1 through time and cultures. It is funny and has a lot of info. We watched it toward the end of the year (just recently) so he was familiar with many of the ancient cultures/places discussed.
It is only available on DVD from netflix (which is how I got it) but I see that it is on google video here
I’d like to see recommendations from others as well. Netflix should be ashamed of their search function – it is the worst ever. I always feel like what I want is there, I just can’t find it!
Here’s a list of movies to supplement history. However, I’m not sure if they would be suited for younger dc & you’d most likely want to view them first. We use Truthquest History and there are movies to supplement throughout, but again for a bit older. You might find Drive Thru History Ancient Series on Netflix- these are excellent for the younger crowd.
Oh, thanks for reminding me about The Story of One, Gem! My husband and I really enjoyed watching it a couple of years ago. I think I’ll put it in my queue for the girls.
The historical documentaries haven’t held my dd’s interest either, yet; so we are just continuing to read great books.
My young ones liked the musical: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the Joseph animated movie (I think it’s called King of Dreams). They also like the animated about Moses (King of Egypt).
A lot of the movies on the link that csmamma posted are available at Netflix. I was browsing through them this morning looking for something for my boys.
Oh and my two love the Drive Thru History videos!
