We are using CM’s motto this year as our theme for the first time. Is there anything out there to guide us in this? We have by God’s good and amazing grace and timing figured out the I AM portion. And I know He will continue to guide us but if there is something already laid out, that could be legitimate guidance also. But if not, then the Lord will continue to guide in other ways! Thanks for your wonderful website and resources!
The motto hangs in our home, if you want to see pics, and they were the first verses we learned last year. Just a few months ago my boys asked me to build Legos with them. Struggling with my airplane, I said something about not being able to build as well as their father, to which my oldest replied, “I am, I can, I ought, I will.”
I think I remember reading that the motto was printed on the children’s exercise books in PNEU schools.
@Richele: after going to your website, I realized I had checked it out before. 😀 And enjoyed. Thanks! Because of your info there, I had printed up the mottos and put them in front of dd and my notebooks with verses (also think I found some on the simply charlotte mason website of course).
@Suzukimom: I appreciate the more “explanations” especially for “I can” (for some reason I was getting stuck there!) and “I will”.
Which made me wonder if there was anything else like this… but on a kid’s level.
We also sang a song through Lifeway’s SaddleRidge Ranch VBS about “I Am Who He Says I Am”. Apparently when the kids (10 dd and 4 ds) learn together – really learning where they repeat it for Daddy and are enjoying themselves, it’s an auditory process. And they have been singing that for everyone! 😀 (If I knew how, I’d put on video here my son singing it for you.) We took a few minutes and listed out the things we sing about in the song and the kids review them from the whiteboard periodically. I was hoping to move on to the next part while their interests are still there. But, not happening (of course we just moved and can’t see the dining room table yet…).
Just “talking” this out with you guys spurred me on… I think we will just list all the things the kids can do – or have done in one day. (Both the good and the bad! Which will lead to the “I Ought”.)
So, that just leads to another question: Any song suggestions?
