I too would love to hear from anyone about Math on the Level. And I have also read all the posts in the entire path section about all the other kinds. 🙂 I just applied to join the Yahoo group for more info as well. I am going to try and save up for this if I can get a little more feedback on it. I love that it is so flexible, hands on, and you do not have to follow a script but it is to the point and meaningful. And no workbooks, which I personally detest as that is how I was homeschooled. I am very weak in math but get to learn all over again with my kids!
I joined the yahoo group yesterday and have got some positive responses back. I’m not “mathy” either and the concept makes me a little nervous!! Maybe we can keep each updated!! 🙂
I bought this last fall – but I’m no big help as I haven’t really applied it much yet. Just the 5-a-day’s and not much else. Even that hasn’t been happening lately. Obviously the down side of it is you have to be prepared in order to progress. You can’t just give them a book and let them read the lesson. The verdict is still out for me. I love the program and the methods – but I’m not sure how much math I’m going to be able to get done with it. I hope to do it through the summer so I can get more used to preparing for lessons and more efficient at making out the 5-a-days. But you do have to understand that I’m also in the process of planning my first year of school myself – with SCM’s book – so I hope things will get better since I’ll be more organized.
I still like it! I still think the prep work is more than I would like, but I like the results so I am sticking with it! I have stared supplementing with the Math U Can See videos to give the info from another angle. But, I use MOTL and 5 a days primarily.
just bought it (wanted it for forever) and I’m very excited about it. I’m still in the ‘getting familiar with it’ phase, but I’ve dabbled w/ a few of the exercises with my children and it went well.
I’ll have to check back in later when we have more of it under our belts.
Hey guys, I have MOTL and love it. BUT like Julie above I don’t know how much Math is being done in my household. I do pretty well for a few weeks or so and then don’t plan for the next few weeks..so Math gets left behind for a month and then I get on the ball and plan and thus the cycle goes. My kids love it and I love it too. Much more hands on, much more interactive with real life situations but keeping up with what I want to teach is the problem for me.
I highly recommend it as long as you are a planner or you don’t mind being “slow” with concepts if you don’t get to them. I really am not worried because I know my kids are progressing and LOVING math so that is more important to me then them getting to a particular concept by a certain time or a certain year.
Hope that helps. Oh I should say that the program itself is laid out very well and very userfriendly. It really is my lack of planning that hinders me not the program itself.
