I’ve had these too. Not sure if they came in through some quinoa or bird seed but drove me crazy! We actually completely redid the pantry…because my dad had gotten some free cabinets not because of the moths…& the cleaning out of pantry items & cloroxing everything down finally rid us of them. Then I recently saw a couple flitting around & about flipped out lol. I managed to find the bag of infested brown rice & kill the few flying around (when I’d manage to catch them hanging out on a shelf or door for a bit & squish with a napkin…yuck!) & haven’t found more in the few months since. The first go round I found them in the lids of unopened spice jars, just about anything it seemed. I had to throw out so much & haven’t replaced most of the spices. Anyway…I did notice there were little cocoon like things on my ceiling in the pantry & sometimes the moths would seem to nest there too. I have the type ceiling that isn’t smooth but not popcorn either (they actually put something like sheetrock mud then spin this round brush in it creating almost a flower like pattern). I say that b/c I think that style is perhaps conducive to creating nesting places or something so check out your ceiling too. Man those things creep me out!!
We had a major infestation of moths this summer. I got rid of them immediately and without any great effort at all by using little sachets of herbs – lavendar, cloves, and I can’t remember what all, maybe about 5 different things. I googled it.
Oh yuck! They are Indian Mealmoths. They are also known as Weevil Moths because just like Grain/Wheat Weevils, they feed on and lay eggs in stored grain. My Mom once got in infestation of BOTH at the same time!!! It was beyond disgusting. We ended up chucking everything in the pantry and did not restock it for over a week just to be sure they were gone and dead. Bay leaves deter them. So if I can’t put something in a glass jar, I keep the package in a zip-loc with a bay leaf just incase.
