I’m sorry I’m posting so much, you are all just so helpful!  I’m just trying to understand Hillyer’s CHOW more, what ages does it span?

Would I end up having to buy another book/set of books for older children?

If you use it instead of other guides, do you use it for all modules?

I’m just looking at book prices and a CHOW is 15.00 on Amazon, but if I buy all the suggested spines(famous men of ____, Oxford FAH) for the CSM modules it’s about 56.00 or more.

    Thanks!

The CHOW is more for younger children, yes. It would be interesting for older children, but it’s written for younger.

It covers Ancients through the break-up of the USSR. The main difference between this book and the suggested spines is that CHOW doesn’t go into as much depth as the others. CHOW covers those thousands of years in just 90 chapters total.

So all in all, yes, you can use it as a spine if you want to; it just won’t be as detailed or cover as many biographies as the other spine suggestions. It’s more of an overview of world history.

Thank you for the info Sonya, I just got a copy of the Oxford book from the libary for 3 weeks and it looks very neat.  My son(who is 6) put it in his library tote and was already looking at the pictures.  I’m definitely still trying to find the Oxford but maybe CHOW will have to do until then:)
