passing this along to you all…I had never heard of this before today:
I happened to stumble upon this and thought I’d share. There is going to be a live cinema event on March 27th.
“This documentary started as a quest for solutions to the problems facing our country, and to find out where we started going wrong. Kirk Cameron took a journey that traced the heroic travels of the early Pilgrims and the unlikely men and women who risked everything for liberty. This documentary will allow you to experience the stories of faith that guided education, government, and civil life in the early founding of America.”
I had never heard of it. I stumbled upon it accidentally while trying to research AIG’s new American History curriculum. I wish it were being more publicized. It seems so dead-on and motivating. I’m looking forward to it.
I’m glad you posted this b/c I meant to the other day and just forgot. I wish it wasn’t going to just be shown one time. I really hope they make a DVD of it. I was so impressed with the things David Barton was sharing with Kirk Cameron in another video I saw. Congress actually printed Bibles that were to be taught in the public schools. I am really eager to see this documentary!
I hope it goes to DVD too because there is a showing in my area but the tickets are $12.50 each. For a family of 4 that’s $50. That’s just not feasible for us at the moment. It looks so good though!
I saw in an interview that Kirk Cameron said it was good for the whole family, but he made it to hold the interest of his daughter who is 13. We wanted to bring the whole family, but at $12.50 a ticket and we are a family of 8, that just couldn’t happen. So now we’re having a double date with good friends of ours. I’m getting a kick out of thinking back 15 years. I don’t think 15 year old me could have ever thought that 15 years down the road, that a good time would include going on a double date in a big ol’ church van to go see a history documentary!! But, it is!!!
DH and I are planning a teacher’s in-service evening for that night. Anyone else on here that might be at the Peoria, IL showing? I wish it was in Bloomington, IL, but as of yet, there hasn’t been enough requests to get it there. If you would like it in your area there is a place on the Monumental website where you can “demand” that a theatre near you show it. It will require 500 requests, you need to include your email address (I’m guessing so they can make sure each request is legit), and you need to either enter your zip code OR the zip of the theatre you’d like to show it (if it’s different from your own zip, this is a way to keep your actual location more private). If your local homeschool group(s) have a Google or Yahoo group, you could send the link out to them as well as those in your church etc, so purhaps you can get the 500 requests by the end of the weekend… which may be very hopeful thinking, but a bit of prayer with that, and anything is possible.
OK, so who went to see it? What a WONDERFUL movie! So much rich history that I did not even know! That statue in Plymouth was great! I want to go there now! I’m intrigued to find out about all the resources since the live feed got cut off. The Monumental FB page will be posting some of what we missed.
If you didn’t see it there may be a chance you can see it this weekend. Go to the movie’s website for more info. This is definitely a must-see documentary! It should be coming out on DVD too. I definitely want this one as a resource when we study American history.
