I made plans with my mom and dad that this year every Wednesday afternoon they would take two of my three kids for a few hours.  This will give me sometime for one on one with each of the kids–something I don’t get to nearly offen enough!  I have lots of idea for things discuss and things to do with my fourteen year old daughter, and some ideas of things to do and discuss with my eight year old daughter, but I’m having trouble coming up with ideas of things to do and discuss with my eleven year old son…

Lucky you!  I would love that.

I have two boys around that age.  Some thoughts:

    -hiking/fishing/bike riding
    -board/card games
-handicraft with tools (make things out of pallets, etc.)
-home repairs, if he likes to do that (my 13YO does)
    -laser tag/paintball
-video games (ugh…but maybe one you save to play together.  My oldest and my DH made memories solving some Scooby Doo game years ago)

In addition to the ideas already listed:

    – watch a movie (at the theater or in the basement)

    – throw rocks in the river

    – go to a bookstore and look at/read books

    – hit convenience store and get a treat then go for a walk. They love slushies which I never let them get so it’s special for them. Milkshakes too.

    – bake something together

    – find a project/craft on Pinterest, go shopping for the stuff and do it

    – sports or games. Shoot baskets, tennis, catch, bowling, air hockey, foosball, etc.

    – go out to eat (fancy or casual)

    – paper airplane contest

    – play with play dough or Legos or blocks- even my 15-yr-olds like this.

We’ve been going canoeing.  I take the kids out one or two at a time while the others fish with DH.  We picked up an inexpensive canoe on Craig’s List.

My kids love going to arcades to play air hockey or skeeball.

We have a few local nature centers that have weekend classes for families or individuals.

    Mini-golf

My kids would love going to a coffee shop or getting ice cream.

Local parks, at least as long as weather permits.  Nature walk, drawing/painting, photography, playground, picnic, fresh air, fall leaf projects, etc.

A special restaurant – even just for dessert

concert/play/live performance (prices range and some can be found for free)

    Library

Great idea to take one child each week – I would like to start doing this too!  Ask your son for his ideas too.
